Toastmasters call to order... and new members…

January 2008

The Wagga Wagga Toastmasters Club regrouped this week after a six week break over the Christmas period.

The Club, which currently has around 30 members, meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month to help members and guests practice public speaking and develop communication and leadership skills.

Wagga Wagga Toastmasters usually has the first meeting of the New Year in February, but this year consensus from members saw the return to the twice monthly meetings earlier than usual.

“Our members come for all sorts of reasons,”  explained Club President Peter Veerhuis. “And many wanted to return early – so we’re already off to a great start to the year with more than half the members coming to the first formal meeting back.”

“Our club is here to help people grow in confidence not only in their public communication skills, but also in their leadership and professional lives as well,” said Mr Veerhuis. “Our members get to practice speaking through prepared presentations as well as impromptu speaking.”

"This is my third year as a member and I love it!" said 25 year old Rachel Viski. "Toastmasters is an extremely supportive, encouraging and enduring club. Every meeting hurls you out of your comfort zone, but it's the feeling of accomplishment you get afterwards that keeps you coming back for more."

Wagga Wagga Toastmasters will also be seeking new members in the New Year.

“We’re all about ‘transforming peoples' lives by providing a positive and friendly environment in which to develop public speaking and leadership skills,” explained Mr Veerhuis.

“For anyone who made a New Year resolution to improve their public speaking skills, we can certainly help give you the confidence to effectively express yourself in any situation.”
