High hopes for win at International Speech Contest

Wagga Wagga Toastmaster Peter Rex has received high acclaim after winning both the Club Speech Contest and the Club Evaluation Contest last week.

Peter, who has achieved Competent Toastmaster (CTM) status, impressed the judging panel at the recent club contests to win not just one – but both competitions.

The International Speech and Evaluation Contests provide an opportunity, not only for speakers to improve their speaking abilities but also for other club members to learn by observing the more proficient speakers performing at contest level.

“This is another great opportunity and gift that Wagga Wagga Toastmasters and Toastmasters International have presented me to further develop as a person,” said Peter, who has been a member of the Wagga Toastmasters Club for just eight months.

“Toastmasters is an International organization and its focus on growth and development of individuals in a supportive club environment enables me to compete at a club level and take what I have learnt from Wagga Wagga Club and expand that at advanced contests alongside fellow Toastmasters who are from other clubs.”

Peter also says he is impressed with the growth of the Club and enjoys the friendly ambience and opportunity to be involved in Club activities.

Other competitors in the Evaluation Contest included newly elected President Kerry Thompson AC-B and Club secretary Joan Veerhuis CTM. One of the younger members of the Club Rachel Viski put in a robust performance in the Speech contest to take out the Runner-up Prize. One of the Club’s newest members Rachel Johnson competed vigorously and was commended for her efforts.

Congratulations to all competitors – and good luck to Peter Rex CTM who will now go on to compete at the Monaro Division International Speech and Evaluation Contest on 14th March.
