Theme night a success as Club Toasts Languages
11 June 2008
Wagga Wagga Toastmasters put their language skills to the test with a Russian theme at the last Club meeting.
The Club has been celebrating different languages from around the world in a tribute to the United Nations International Year of Languages.
“The Wagga Wagga Toastmasters Club is a real learning environment for our members,” said President Peter Veerhuis. “It’s all about building communication, language and leadership skills.”
Member Victoria Dalglish says she learns something new at every meeting and the language themed nights are no exception.
“Our language theme nights coincide with a significant event from the country – in this instance our Russian theme night coincides with Russian Federation National Day which is on 12th June,” said Ms Dalglish. “The language theme nights are another opportunity for members to learn from each other and we draw from our own background, collective knowledge, life experiences and dreams.”
The next theme night will be French and takes place on Tuesday 22nd July. It will coincide with the 14th July Bastille Day celebrations. Chinese and Spanish nights will be held in September and October.
“The language themed nights add to the fun of the club and are a real discovery for our members,” added Mr Veerhuis. “We find out some amazing facts and hear inspiring stories about the language , the country and the culture.”
